Edward “Ed” Gallagher of Santa Clara passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on April 19, 2026. Born in 1941 in Watsonville, CA, he spent most of his life in Santa Clara and San Jose.
After serving honorably as a U.S. Coast Guard Quartermaster aboard the USCGC Blackhaw and the USCGC Woodbine, Ed dedicated over 30 more years of service as a Santa Clara County Deputy Sheriff.
Above all, Ed was a devoted husband and father.
He and Joan shared 52 years of marriage before her passing in 2020.
He was a proud and adoring grandfather to Alannah, Natalie, and Nathan, who brought him tremendous joy.
Ed was a longtime member of the Elks, the Pescadores Club, and the Cadillac LaSalle Club of California. His passion was restoring and showing his prized collection of vintage Cadillacs, particularly those from the late 1930s and early 1940s. He enjoyed fishing, golf, a good crime mystery novel, and anything about World War II. He never missed a San Francisco Giants or 49ers game.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Lisa) and Karen (Robert), and his three grandchildren (Alannah, Natalie, and Nathan).
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
